Does anyone know what the likelihood of respiratory problems at birth is for a baby with ACC? I've had my other children at a freestanding birth center (within a very short drive of a good hospital), and the hospital dr. who talked to us after the ultrasound thought we should have the baby at the hospital instead, in case the baby had breathing problems at birth and required a breathing tube. Just because "you never know how ACC will affect a baby."
From what I've read online, most kids were diagnosed some time after birth anyway, and I can't find records of breathing problems associated with ACC (unless there are other medical issues involved as well). The ultrasound showed no other deformities anywhere (though it can't tell everything about the brain w/o an MRI), but nothing else obviously wrong with the brain or lungs or anything else in the body. The midwives at the birth center are trained in infant CPR and have oxygen on hand if needed, and can transport baby to the hospital in short order.
Anyone have thoughts on this, or know of cases where it was crucial that the baby was born in the hospital itself and not 10 min. away from it? Or cases where simply having ACC caused the baby to have severe respiratory issues at birth?
Thanks, Lydia
