Ok so I'm sure that those of us mommies who have had our share of therapists have probably gone through similar stuff like I did this past saturday and I want some help on managing and understanding the following;
Our regualar child stim therapist is out for maternity leave, so we have a sub teacher for 8 weeks... don't get me wrong this lady is a nice decent woman, very religious and sweet but gosh should she think before she speaks!
For one, the second she walked into my house and saw Brianna, (Brianna was sitting down in her chair being fed via gtube) she says the following " oooh she is my favorite, THEY are such huggers " ok help! What does she mean by THEY? THEY what? What does this woman mean by "THEY" ?? I didnt take it very well but kept my mouth shut.
Then she proceeded to give me this long story about how she never had kids and I should be greatful for having such a healthy child... for one... I know it could be a lot worse and of course Brianna isn't one of the sickest children.... but truth of the matter is she is not healthy. She is gtube dependant ( by the way she saw her hooked up to her feeding pump when she arrived and asked me to unhook her so that she could play with her ) she has had three surgeries we are looking into 2-3 more surgeries, she has chronic respiratory issues ( very obvious by the sounds Brianna makes while breathing ) all this is kept in their charts I thought. So I went ahead and told her that I am in deed very lucky to have Brianna as my child and that I am thankful that God has helped her over come so many health issues, and told her of a few. (We have had a few close calls of almost losing Brianna)... so very healthy... ummm not so much.
Then at almost the end of the session she says... "so why doesnt she have a diagnose yet she seems severely delayed, the chart just says developmentally delayed but no diagnose" uuuugh! She then says "you should really get her checked out and get a diagnose so she can get all the help she needs" uuuugh! So I told her she does have a diagnose she was diagnosed with agenesis of the corpus callosum at 5 1/2 months of age... then I get the old so famous...
"WHAT IS AGENESIS OF THE CORPUS CALLOSUM"...
kind of bothers me that her diagnose was not mentioned in the charts since she has been followed by their early intervention program for a year and a half now and that none of the 6 therapists who have seen her know of have heard of ACC... really bothers me shouldnt they have to learn a little about a child's diagnose to be able to help them in the areas they need? Not every child labeled as "developmentally delayed" needs the same type of therapy~ ugh!
If anyone has gone through any of these things or similar to please reply, I am very upset today especially at the "THEY" part what the heck did she mean by that... again this was her first time ever seen Brianna.
