Hi everyone! My husband and I are considering adoption a 3 year old girl with ACC. Her medical developmental reports show that so far, she is developing normally and each month since her birth she has met appropriate milestones.
We do have a few concerns though, and would like to know if you know the answers or can point us in the right direction. Also, we are looking for an expert to review her medical file and discuss it with us.
1. Can we expect her to continue developing normally since she has been doing so for the past three years? Or would her condition worsen as time goes on.
2. How likely is it that she'll never be able to live on her own as an adult? Is this something that would cause her to need live-in care for the rest of her life?
3. What is the potential for behavior problems as she gets older? Can proper behavior be taught?
In case anyone is wondering, we do have resources in our area that we plan on utilizing if/when we need it. The healthcare in our area is amazing and we have an adoption clinic that specializes in all needs associated with children coming from institutions to families. We'd just like to know what to expect with her in the future so we are prepared.
